Staff Profiles

Bert Mason, Retired CPA

Bert has been a CPA in public practice for over 40 years in the Frostburg area.  Bert began his accounting career with Lowell Sowers, CPA, and then Sowers, Burkey, and Mason, P.A.   In 1988 he began working on his own with many of the same clients.  Bert earned a B.S. in Accounting from West Virginia University in 1972.  He lives in Frostburg with his wife Marlene, has 3 grown children and two grandsons.  Bert officially retired in 2018 but continues to help out in the practice.

Laura Breighner, CPA

Laura (Mason) Breighner joined her father in practice in 2003.  Laura graduated from Frostburg State University in 2000 with a B.S. in Accounting, and in 2004 with a Masters in Business Administration.  Laura is a Certified Public Accountant through the state of Maryland.  Prior to joining the firm Laura worked as a staff accountant at Beers & Cutler, PLLC in Washington, DC from 2000-2003.  Laura lives in Frostburg with her husband Tom and son Cameron.

Emily Doolan, Staff Accountant

Emily joined Mason & Breighner in January 2016 after receiving her Masters In Business Administration from Frostburg State University in 2015.  She also received her B.S. in Accounting in 2014 from Frostburg State. Emily is an Enrolled Agent with the IRS.

Laurie Crowe, Office Administrator/Payroll and Sales Tax Coordinator

Laurie began working for Mason & Breighner in 2007.  She graduated from Frostburg State University with a B.S. in Accounting.  Laurie specializes in payroll and sales tax, assisting clients with payroll setup, and preparation of payroll taxes.
